Roxanne “Rokki” Baker has dedicated over twenty-five years to fighting stigma and educating others at community levels surrounding hepatitis C, harm reduction and medication assisted recovery solutions. Baker, a methadone advocate for on behalf of consumers of drug treatment for over two decades, has been at the forefront of methadone policy development at the federal, state and local level.
Baker founded the Northern California Chapter of the National Alliance of Methadone Advocates (NAMA Nor Cal) in 1998. She also served on the Board of Directors of the National Alliance of Methadone Advocates (NAMA) and as the West Coast Regional Director for fifteen years. As Chapter Coordinator for NAMA, she marshalled the efforts of over 50 organizations including 12 international methadone advocate organizations. Her responsibilities included organization mentoring, development and inter-organizational communications. Over that period of time the organizations grew leaps and bounds while grassroots efforts intensified.
She is the consummate advocate for addressing health disparities, improving health outcomes and under-served populations. She brings her commitment and knowledge for social justice, organizational prowess and passion for health equity towards this challenge to eliminate viral hepatitis. Today, Rokki resides in Santa Cruz with her dog, Lady and cat, Danny and is an ardent supporter for animal rights locally.
